Solo show by Dan Maciuca
Curator Adina Zorzini
Dan Maciuca (b. 1979) is one of the strongest emerging artists from the Cluj School of Art, living and working in Cluj Napoca, Romania; the artist perfectly masters the classical painting techniques and is also an associated teacher at the University of Art and Design (Painting Department).
A special feature in Dan Maciuca’s practice is the importance given to the abstract dimension, the artist thus differentiating himself by being one of the very few abstract Romanian painters of his generation; it is well known that the practice of art does not have a strong historical background with regard to abstract expression in Eastern European history of art. Thus, Dan Maciuca is one of the most important representatives of the abstract approach of painting in the Eastern European recent production.
In the Colliding Geometry solo show Dan Maciuca presents a highly skilful and profoundly conceptual new series of paintings in which he explores the gestural language of the abstract expression: the title refers to colliding gestures through the means of painting on canvas and, also to the collision between the conjuring and inner realities which are colliding in this ultimate artistic representation.
Colliding Geometry stands out as the latest direction in the abstract research of Dan Maciuca, documenting the geometrical absorption of the artist towards a new and personal expression of the gesture; at the same time, the chromatic codes are colliding as well in this latest series of artworks, reinforcing the artistic thinking and underlining the power of attraction in Dan Maciuca’s vision.
